How can we comprehend the great works of The One “whose ways are higher than our ways, whose thoughts are higher than our thoughts”? We are as nothing, counted as dust on the balance. When troubles come, we see little else, and as tests of faith hit the heart, brothers and sisters we love begin to trade-in the pearl of great price, with nothing but a shrug and not even a backward glance.

And you would think, if this is all you looked at, that after several days and nights of this, there is nowhere for everything to go but down.

Yet it is those same people who are left, who are capable of anger as they are of compassion, capable of questioning as they are of accepting, capable of building as they are of cleaning up, who choose, despite all contrary forces visible and invisible, to HOLD ON to GOD “Who is our refuge and strength... Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea...” It is they who live to see the morning, and find this reason for thanksgiving...

where is our rest in a life of chaos?

Our dear friend Robert Cooper also sent us a deeply strengthening letter after the storm that raged across our islands:

“For sometime now, I wanted to write you a longer letter to help, and encourage ... but tears would only come. What should I say, what could I say? And it came to me, share this Letter ...”

instruction is interaction

“Preaching, and that of listening inactively each week results in a dead and dying congregation, it results in a lack of drive, initiative, vigour and energy.  This is the complete antithesis of the early Christians.  Why?... ”

That's an excerpt from an article shared by a brother in the faith from England about something now appreciated by fellowships of believers but continues to be an issue in large assemblies. Just measure everything you read according to God's Word, and for sure you'll be able to discern how to use what's good and helpful from it. Baby Ducks PDF Print E-mail

“Ang tagal naman, akala namin tatlong araw lang...” (“We thought it would only take three days...”) we said, the second time we saw the mother duck sitting all comfy in her nest, nililimliman ang mga itlog. We’re all used to running to and fro, so the waiting like there's all the time in the world was a bit disconcerting.

The storm came and went and the mother duck padded back and forth to the nest, adding eggs, sometimes looking a bit unsure about what to do with them, while the father just waddled about. (Surely not where they got the phrase lame duck? Hmmm... )

But mother duck did know what she was doing, while we, actually knew NOTHING. Much more was lost to mankind in those three weeks, than to her, sitting patiently, waiting for the right time, until her young absorbed the yolk sac inside their shells...

“Do you know the time when the wild mountain goats bear young?
Or can you mark when the deer gives birth?
Can you number the months that they fulfill?
Or do you know the time when they bear young?
They bow down,
They bring forth their young,
They deliver their offspring,
Their young ones are healthy...”

The LORD God, to Job, 39:1-4a

Then one day last week, when we had all forgotten about the eggs in the bunker, this is what we found! (see video) There really are times when you have to sit on something and wait it out, even if you’re the only one left to do it.

According to our resident kalapati-raiser Arnold Miguel, those that are born deep-brown are itik, and the rubber-ducky yellow ones are pato, though all the baby ducks are bi-be. ...
